Replacement of Existing Technology

Replaces no staffing, which is why it is being requested.

Project will fund student assistant hours dedicated to helping users of the student-access computer systems in the library, primarily the 36 workstations on the 2nd floor which feature access to the Microsoft Office suite. The assistants will be available to answer questions regarding the use of Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet Explorer, by student users of these workstations. The assistants will also be able to answer questions and assist users with printing, basic online database searching, and will handle basic hardware problems, such as stuck floppy disks, or paper jams at any of the other 120 workstations and 5 print stations located on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of the library building. Sufficient hours are being requested to provide at least one assistant to this area during all the hours the library is open. Statistics will be maintained regarding number and type of questions asked. In the narrowest sense, the assistants will serve the 36 primary student-access workstations on the 2nd floor, and so will have a potential customer base of 36 concurrent users.
