The two Journalism labs, mcomm 270A and B, and master classroom mcomm 228, need upgrades from Adobe Creative Suite 5 to CS6, the current version. Not having the current version causes problems for students who work in other labs or on their own machines with CS6, since they can't open their work in CS5. Also, there are compatibility problems between mac OS 10.8 and CS5. Apple Remote Desktop is needed by instructors in the two labs in order to share their screen with the students for demonstrations, and to monitor student activity. Panic Coda is used to write code for websites. The new class in the VCOM sequence, 3980 Information Web Design, requires students to create sites using HTML/CSS, and this is a clear, easy-to-use and inexpensive application for that purpose, and one commonly used by professionals.
