The College of Education’s new Professional Development Center will provide an instructional space with seating capacity of up to 150. This is unique for MTSU’s campus. The Center will be a facility serving not only the College of Education, but will be open to all colleges on campus involved in teacher preparation. Specifically for pre-service teachers: preparation for praxis exams, training for edTPA and the TEAM evaluation, as well as residency classes and seminars. Currently the College of Education serves an enrollment of 1,649 students. In addition to student success, the Center will also provide training, workshops, and conferences (including webinars) for in-service teachers in the Middle Tennessee area. Through these venues last year we served approximately 613 pre-service and in-service teachers. Additionally, the Center will be a valuable resource for university faculty training, highlighting the use of the latest technology in education which will be used in undergraduate and graduate classroom instruction. The Center will also be a resource for in-service training and graduate seminars. All sessions will have the ability to be videotaped for archiving purposes as well as streamed live to other facilities including our satellite campuses. In keeping abreast of constantly changing trends and state mandates, the Center will serve as a hub for information and professional development making it possible to accommodate small groups or one large group of 150 people at one time. The configuration of the room combined with the technology capabilities will create a distinctive asset for MTSU.
