The Special Education program offers two majors at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Within these major courses of study, students are expected to become adept in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of a variety of educational and diagnostic tests which they will use in their roles as teachers. In order to assure that our graduates gain these skills and are experienced in the use of the most recent and relevant testing materials, students in these programs must take assessment classes appropriate to their major area of study. The following are the required assessment classes in the undergraduate and graduate programs in special education: SPED 4160 Assessment of Exceptional Children, SPED 4910 (new course) Diagnostic Assessment, SPED 6310 Educational Assessment, and SPED 6910 Diagnostic Assessment. It is in these classes that students in special education receive the hands on experience with the most current valid and reliable assessment/diagnostic measures available. The purpose of this proposal is to request TAF funds to be used to update departments test holdings with the most current valid and reliable measures available for exclusive use by our students to use to gain this testing proficiency through hands-on experience with these materials. The program projects that these materials will be used exclusively by 35-40 undergraduate students (SPED 4260 & 4910) and 25-35 graduate students (SPED 6310 & 6910) per year.
