The College of Mass Communication has no open lab or other facilities for students to work on assignments that require photos, video, graphics and publication production outside of class. The LRC does not have adequate facilities for all of our students. This equipment would alleviate some of that shortage. The cameras have full 1080p video capability and would be used to train students in shooting both still images and video while on reporting assignments. The laptops would be used to upload and process the photos and video, and to produce graphics and publications for the VCOM and JOUR classes. Our lab classes have a maximum of 17 students, so the equipment would be used by one class at a time, to fulfill an assignment covering several weeks. The expected usage would be up to 8 classes a semester, which is up to 136 students. The equipment would also be used during the summer, when prof. Leon Alligood takes a reporting class to different locations across the state. The reporting classes will also be covering the state General Assembly elections this, and will need equipment for that purpose.
