Replacement of Existing Technology

The current operating software and computer hardware will not support some instructor prepared tutorials and upgrade plug-ins for some web-based course materials. As the courses progress, it will become increasingly important to have lab computers available and compatible for student use. In addition, with the selection of a new text and support materials the current math lab computers cannot support the technology for the supplemental instructional materials. Also, the printers are not uniform and have been scavenged for use in the lab. These printers frequently do not function and cannot support the needs of the number of students who are accessing the lab. Two of the computers are currently using dot-matrix printers. Finally, the Macintosh computer screens are smaller than the size recommended for use with text enlarging software and other handicap accessibility options. Because of the limited desk space, the flat screen monitors would enable students to work at the desks more readily than with the full size monitors.

Stark Agricultural Building 202-replace outdated computers and printers in the developmental studies math lab. The math lab is available year round to all students taking one of four developmental math classes (RSM 0070, DSM 0080, DSM 0085, DSM 0090). In 2000, 1534 students visited the lab in 7474 separate visits, for a total of 8182 hours. Instructors routinely place interactive tutorials on the computers to enhance student learning.
