Communications: This is our first year as a department. This proposal will address one-third of the three classrooms we have been assigned. BDA 320 serves at least 33 classes and 1650+ students annually. Departmental classes require students to use visual aids during multiple presentations. BDA 320 currently has temporary technology (NOMAD cart). We would like to upgrade with the LINK system to include minimum built-in technology and converted to a master classroom. Archaeology: When PH 110 (Archaeology teaching lab classroom) was renovated in 2005-2006, we experimented with whiteboard paint on drywall to create a marker board and projector screen. Use has made the paint difficult to clean, resulting in illegibility of what is written on it, a problem magnified when the overhead projector is projecting onto it (images difficult to see). Additionally, HVAC vibrations cause the overhead projector to vibrate, which vibrates whatever is being projected (Powerpoint slides, video, data tables). Students report difficulty in focusing on projections because of vertigo-like sensations. Vibrations seemingly are increasing. Proposed is removal of the painted whiteboard and overhead projector, replaced with wall-mounted flat-screen TV panel with marker boards on sides. TV equipped with WiFI connecting to the computer workstation currently in the room (via Apple TV), facilitating control of TV via Archaeology Lab iPads, which are used for classroom instruction, in-class data collection, and student presentations. English: PH 315 has had no technology. The classrooms in this building are continually used. While not a full proposal, the amount requested will assist pedagogy greatly.
