The University College testing center located in KUC 110 administers over 5,500 tests each year. As an extension of the classroom, the test center provides testing services for correspondence, online, RODP, and hybrid courses as well as exit exams, major field tests, pre and post calculus exams, and the graduation survey. The test center also offers placement testing in math, reading and English, the pre-calculus challenge test and the nelson/denny reading test. There is an immediate need for replacement of non-working computers and a need for additional computers to meet the increased demand for testing and the expansion needs of the center. Currently capacity is 70 computers, 49 of which are in need of replacement. Of those, 12 are not functioning and the remaining 37 are continually having parts replaced and suffer a variety of operating issues. These problems make it difficult to provide adequate availability to students needing testing. This proposal is replacing 49 non-functioning and at risk computers and additional 21 computers to stabilize and expand testing capacity. The expansion of the lab will not only help meet the demand for increased testing responsibilities but will also accommodate requests to make the lab available for all colleges and departments to schedule make up tests or independent assignments requiring supervision of a proxy. The Ethernet switch that serves the lab is currently at max capacity and so it will also be necessary to purchase an additional switch to accommodate the expanded capacity.
