Wiser-Patten Science is being renovated over a two year period ending November 2016, and every room will be updated except the 100-seat master classroom. WPS 102 serviced over 1200 Chemistry and Physics students each semester before the opening of the new science building; and, the need for this size classroom does not seem to have been satisfied. The new large (>75 seats) master classrooms, SCI 1003 and 1006, are already fully booked M-F 8am – 5pm by Biology and Chemistry. After the renovation, WPS 102 will be used by Physics & Astronomy, Geosciences, and other CBAS departments. This request is to update WPS 102 for the first time in over 15 years. The ancient projector will be replaced by six flat panel displays: two in the front of the room, two ceiling mounted displays located 1/3 of the distance from the board, and two more displays placed 2/3 of the distance from the board. The flat panels will allow the colors of Astronomy to be viewed without the need for reduced room lighting and without the constant image vibration now present. The pairs of displays at each location will also allow a projected computer image and document camera output to be shown simultaneously. By far, the most convenient time to update this room is now – during the WPS renovation.
