New flight sim building room 107

The Aerospace Department proposes that the new flight simulator building classroom (107) be converted into a master classroom. This building was just completed in 8/15, but there was insufficient funding in the building project to equip the room as a master classroom. The room will be scheduled at capacity (20 students) for courses AERO 3240, AERO 4250, and AERO 4342 during the academic year, and for AERO 3240 and AERO 3440 in the summer. All of these courses have experienced capacity enrollment in recent semesters, resulting in a minimum of 160 students impacted each year. Additional maintenance management classes may also be scheduled, as that program is currently experiencing high enrollment and additional sections are necessary. When the room is operated at capacity, it is difficult to position the Nomad cart and instructor to be able to project the course materials (i.e., there is no space in the middle of the room for this cart to be located). The pro pilot classes which use the room project electronic training aids (systems diagrams, checklists, procedures, performance charts) in addition to video clips of air carrier crew interactions. The maintenance management classes project complex aircraft manuals and maintenance procedures. The ability of the instructor to move between presentation mediums easily will provide a much better instructional environment for the students.
