The James E. Walker Library at MTSU is the intellectual center for MTSU students and is a reflection of the University's commitment to education and research. The DMS/Makerspace is a specialized area dedicated to collaborative multimedia project work, student E-portfolio development (supporting the MT Engage program), design software, 3D printing, and project construction. Some computer stations for this area are equipped with 3D capable technology supporting 3D vision and virtual reality, which allows collaborative development of 3D multimedia, VR, CAD-CAM, scientific visualization, and other media projects. We wish to add two of these systems (our recent renovation has opened up some space). We are requesting three additional iMacs as we have increased demand for the Apple machines. We are requesting 4 additional standard PCs to use in conjunction with existing 3D printers and a vinyl cutter. The library has 8 existing adaptive technology machines which are badly dated and essentially non functional. We would like to replace 5 of those with new systems optimized for adaptive technology and replace the other three with standard student PCs. Public PCs on our first floor and our group study PCs need RAM upgrades and out Intel NUCs need hard drive upgrades, allowing these older machines to continue to function adequately thus delaying the need to fund replacements.
