This equipment is used to quantify bone density in the lower extremity and allows students the ability to determine the presence of osteoporosis. Through classroom demonstrations and laboratory experiences, students will gain experience and exposure to a common clinical evaluation performed on the elderly and those with disordered eating. This equipment will also be employed in research studies at the graduate levels. It will allow students to perform advanced analyses of the impact of physical activity, diet, and age on the maintenance of and production of bone mass. This advanced technology will allow our future Ph.D. students to be at the forefront of publishable and fundable research. This equipment will be beneficial to students in several classes offered through the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The requested equipment will be used in the following courses: PHED 424/524, PHED 434, PHED 481, PHED 684, PHED 683, and HLTH 311. Annual enrollment for these courses is 485 students.
