The department proposes to update one standard classroom - PH 220, and update PH 227 because we lost approximately 200+ sq. ft. from the classroom when the new student lounge space was added. PH 220 has a very limited station consisting of a computer with no AMX. Everything in the room is operated manually. The Ethernet cord is currently taped to the baseboards around the classroom. We do not get wireless internet in this building, even though they added all the wireless boxes. The upgrade is necessary for reliable and effective instruction. This upgrade will benefit approximately 1500 students from Sociology, Anthropology, History, English, Communications, Social Work, etc. in general education and upper division courses. We fully understand that there will be no new floors or new ceilings. We are only asking for the master technology station to be upgraded to the standard classroom configuration to include an AMX control and an Elmo, new student tables, paint, whiteboards to be moved to another wall, and motorized window shades to be added to the existing space. In PH 227, the room needs to be flipped by moving the existing furniture and technology/whiteboards to accommodate the new layout. Paint, two additional whiteboards, minimal moving of the infrastructure for teacher's station (screen power, projector power), partial new station for the teacher (motorized shades and AMX touch panel not needed), and a few new tables to replace ones that are badly damaged.
