Music requests TAF funding for the installation of one state-of-the art, virtual acoustic technology practice room (V-Room) adjacent to the existing V-room on the first floor of SFA. V-Rooms provide different ambient environments for study (i.e. simulate a concert hall) and include built-in student recording and playback functions to enhance study and is downloadable to laptops. This room will be largely for percussion students as well as other music students for small group practice with percussion. Because of studio growth, percussion majors/minors have run out of places to rehearse. Percussion has approximately 58 students this year with anticipated growth to 68 in the fall. This room will be large enough to accommodate percussion keyboards such as the marimba. The room would benefit approximately 262 music majors, 25 graduate students, 70 music minors, and 50 music industry minors in the current year. Additionally, Percussion is seeking a video camera and stereo audio recording equipment to record students in percussion for teaching. Students would be able to simply remove a chip to take their work with them. The MTSU University Symphony Orchestra is requesting a digital camera and accessories to record rehearsals and student conductors as a learning tool. Thank you!
