Health disciplines have been identified as having a critical need for new professionals, with hands-on experiences/training/research. DSE makes it possible to provide CBHS students with educational, hands-on experiences essential for professional preparation to meet the missions of the College, MTSU and the needs of trained undergraduates and post graduates for professionals in the state of Tennessee. CBHS serves 5000+ students in classroom education, training and research with an additional 5000+ university students taking Psychology courses and H&HP activity courses. CBHS graduates about 1000 undergraduate per academic year and we further benefit the university with state funding by maintaining its Carnegie classification (37/100 of the required PhD graduates per five years from H&HP). Additionally, there is a high multiplier for funding from the college’s large number of master’s students. Our request, combined across departments, is tied to maintaining all aspects of education. This request includes: Pediatric/OB training equipment (Nursing), psychological assessment and EEG system related equipment (Psychology), assessment, training and activity equipment (H&HP), and necessary student oriented equipment tied to a growing HumSci program. Enrollment/usage per academic year: Activity (H&HP) undergraduate 1500+ per year, psych undergraduate 300+; graduate courses, graduate research, theses and dissertations (H&HP and Psych) 200+. Human Sciences; IDES, NFS and TXMD 350+ students. For Human Sciences it is critical for students and for accreditation that these courses provide the most current technologies. Nursing, a signature program at MTSU, utilizes the equipment every semester providing hands on experience to 256 students (in 4 courses) per year across Pediatrics/OB specializations.
