The Department of Art and Design has combined Printmaking, Book Arts, and Letterpress to create a Print Media concentration. With this change, the area is hoping to expand the technology they have available for students. We are hoping to acquire a a two color Risograph printer. This is a machine synthesizes Xerox and screen printing processes. You load colored drums into the machine and it uses a scanning bed to create masters through which separate color layers are printed. It prints with a soy based ink, so it has a tactile quality much different from a color copy or inkjet printer. It would be a good item to have to bridge the gap between book arts, print and design as risographs can be duplexed and collated into books quite easily while retaining a quirky handprinted feels.
