The digital history program has 15 Macbook Pro laptops in our lab that were purchased by my predecessor in the position of Professor of Digital History. These were purchased either from 2012 or earlier (I don't have purchasing records for the half of them purchased prior to 2012). When I first arrived at MTSU in 2016, ITD updated these with the latest Mac OS that was possible. Now, they can no longer be updated and students using them have reported that they are unable to perform even the most basic functions with these computers because they can no longer update to current versions of software and web applications (even those as ubiquitous as the Google Chrome web browser). These fifteen computers serve both undergraduate and graduate students in my Digital History courses on both group and individual work. On average, there are forty students who use them annually.
