Music requests TAF funding for the installation of one state-of-the art, virtual acoustic technology practice room (VAE Room) adjacent to the existing "V" room on the first floor of SFA. VAE Rooms provide different ambient environments for study (i.e. simulate a concert hall) and include built-in student recording and playback functions to enhance study and is downloadable to laptops. This room will be largely for percussion students as well as other music students for small group practice with percussion. Because of studio growth, percussion majors/minors have run out of places to rehearse. Percussion has approximately 68 students this year with anticipated growth to upwards of 75 in the fall. This room will be large enough to accommodate percussion keyboards such as the marimba. The room would benefit approximately 300 undergraduate music majors, 25 graduate students, 70 music minors, and 100 music industry minors in the fall of 2019. Information on the VAE room may be found at https://www.wengercorp.com/sound-isolation/virtual-acoustic-environment-technology.php
