The School of Agriculture requests funding for: 1) A nitrogen analyzer, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, a microscope camera, and a grinder to facilitate interdisciplinary research and teaching across all agricultural disciplines. The Thermo Scientific FlashSmart EA Combustion NC SOIL Analyzer is suitable for the determination of protein content (nitrogen) in livestock feeds, grains, animal tissues, dairy products and beer, as well as total carbon and nitrogen contents in soil and compost. This equipment will be an integral part of the curriculum and training of undergraduate students in Plant and Soil Science, Fermentation Science, and Animal Science. 2) Software upgrades and equipment used to track milk production in the MTSU dairy. This system collects individual cow data related to health, activity level, and milk production. The current software is not compatible with current Windows operating systems, forcing the use of a computer that is well beyond its reasonable service lifetime and unreliable. This technology is utilized by all animal science courses in the School of Agriculture.
