The department of Health and Human Performance is the second largest department on campus based on undergraduate majors. The department is housed in two buildings, Alumni Memorial Gym (AMG) and Murphy Center (MC), with a total of 11 classrooms (all unrestricted). The classrooms in these two buildings host over 7,500 student per semester. The hallways adjacent to the classrooms in MC and AMG do not have areas where students can sit together. In fact, these areas have limited space for students to sit anywhere outside the classrooms. This proposal is to convert a room (AMG 205) into an Open Technology Based Learning Space for students to gather and study. The request will allow this 400sq. ft. room to be outfitted with a small conference table (6 seats) with connectivity to display electronic media on a wall mounted 50” flat panel TV. In addition, there will be seating for 5 students at high counter tops with USB, 120v outlets, and network connections for charging/running/connecting tablets, laptops, and phones. Finally, this room will have two small tables to accommodate 3-4 students each.
