The current classroom equipment is not capable of supporting today’s technology for the Interior Design (IDES) Program in the Department of Human Sciences. The master classroom upgrade for LRC 112 is needed since this room is still in analog format. In addition, the other two studio rooms, LRC 108 and 109, are not equipped for the video conferencing events that are held within the IDES Program. Since video conferencing is becoming a regular part of the IDES curriculum for classroom assignments and speakers, having these equipment upgrades will prevent the program from incurring regular expenses for rental of equipment from IT. The current enrollment for the Interior Design Program includes 92 undergraduate students. This figure is based on actual university enrollment data as of January 13, 2020. The request for technology improvements will directly benefit these students on an annual basis as well as a comparable number of students in subsequent years. Advancing the technology in the Interior Design Program will assist in meeting and maintaining the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This accreditation, of which the IDES Program at MTSU currently has, is necessary to attract perspective new students and is required for graduating students to be hired in the Interior Design profession.
