MTSU’s Animation program is one of the fastest-growing programs on campus and currently serves 232 majors and 48 minors plus an additional number of students taking the courses as electives. All work done by the students is either computer generated or computer assisted. Specialized software makes the work possible. Most of the software requires annual renewal, so we are proposing to cover a portion of those renewal costs with TAF funds. Syncsketch software is real-time collaborative media that enables students to upload their work into a playback and annotation system that allow faculty and fellow students to view the work and provide detailed critiques and feedback. Red Giant Software includes visual effects such as explosions and plugins for After Effects to create custom visual effects. Algorithmic Substance Painter enables students to “paint” realistic looking textures on to computer generated 3D surfaces. These software tools are used by all students in the program in multiple classes. These are standard tools used in the animation industry for professional production.
