KOM 302 was priority assigned to the Math department after Geosciences moved to the newly remodeled DSB. It is not in good shape at the moment. The technology is outdated and insufficient, and the room itself is unsightly. Both the technology and decor evoke a 1970's atmosphere. It has a seat limit of 25, so we regularly schedule upper division and graduate courses in this room since our slightly larger rooms need to be used for large-enrollment courses such as College Algebra and Calculus. For the past few years, KOM 302 has housed an average of 12.3 MATH sections per fall semester, and 11 MATH sections every spring semester, for a total of 23.3 sections per year. These sections have a combined capacity of 583 students per year, and the math department generally uses over 90% of our seating capacity (indeed, we teach over 20,000 SCH per semester). This TAF project, therefore, would affect hundreds of students and is an excellent use of resources. Per Terri Carlton, the construction estimate is $56,000, and this includes the following: -Electrical and data as necessary for new instructor’s station and touch-panel at the front of the room. -New flooring with required abatement of old flooring -Minor rework of HVAC for updated appearance -Some new student desks and chairs to match existing -Other new furniture (instructor’s stool, lectern, whiteboards) -Demolition of unused electrical and data boxes -Remove old furniture that is not used. -Paint entire room Per James Copeland, installing a new compuater will be $1200, and adding an 86" interactive display will be an additional $18,000.
