The Maintenance Management concentration is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), and is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Aviation Maintenance Technician training program. During the last review cycle from both agencies, several equipment improvements were recommended. In the 2018/2019 academic year, the department’s largest and most comprehensive training aircraft, a retired Federal Express Boeing 727, reached the end of its serviceable life as a teaching aid, and has been removed from the airport campus. In address the training needs of the curriculum without this aircraft, the Maintenance Management program is proposing several new training aids to meet both AABI and FAA recommendations and to modernize the curriculum in multiple courses: AERO’s 2342, 4310, 4311, 4312, 4332, 4342, 4371, 4381 and 4392 (approximately 300 students/year cycle through these courses). The variety of equipment requested offers the opportunity to contemporize the program’s lab and shop equipment and to be more inclusive of the technical advances happening across the aerospace industry. Instead of using aged aircraft that are no longer flyable as training aids, this equipment will bring current day technology to our students in the form of system-specific training aids. In addition to meeting industry expectations in terms of equipment familiarization, these training aids will take far less space than would the continued acquisition of old aircraft. These improvements will help the Maintenance Management program remain a national leader in collegiate aerospace education.
