During these exceptionally challenging times, health disciplines have been identified as having a critical need for new professionals with hands-on experiences as well as classroom training and research knowledge. DSE makes it possible for our college to train undergraduates/graduates as health professionals in our state as well as help in meeting the missions of departments, College, and university. As one of the largest colleges, CBHS also serves the university through the many students taking Psychology and HHP activity courses. DSE contributes to this capability. CBHS graduates about 1000 undergraduates/academic year and benefits the university funding by maintaining its Carnegie classification through graduating about 1/3 of the doctoral degrees as well as approximately 50% of the master’s degrees. Our request is tied to maintaining all aspects of the university’s mission by allowing for state-of-the-art hands-on training in professional areas of high demand as well as adapting current instructional methods to align with pandemic-related safety requirements. Requested items include equipment for the largest School of Nursing simulation lab, clinical and educational psychological assessment kits (School and Clinical Psychology), workstations for discipline specific equipment/software (Experimental Psychology) previously funded by TAF and a specialized freezer for olfactory samples tied to research of olfactory and social interactions. Physical activity equipment from HHP is also included. Enrollment/usage per academic year impacted by this request: 200+ HHP undergraduate, 300+ Psychology undergraduate; 200+ HHP and Psychology graduate students, directed graduate research, theses and dissertations; About 500 nursing students per semester will use the requested equipment.
