Replacement of Existing Technology

The current license for each of these software packages will expire this summer or fall. The packages cannot be operated without the upgrades and their accompanying hardware or software keys.

GIS/Remote Sensing Software The requested software will be used by students in the following Geography and Geology courses: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Cartography, Image Interpretation, Computer/Field Methods in Geology, and Geologic Remote Sensing. These are all upper level courses, some of which are also listed for graduate (500 level) credit. The average annual enrollment in the classes varies between 50 and 75 students, depending upon which of the classes are offered each semester. About 10% of these are graduate students All items requested are software upgrades and support. We seek annual license, support, and upgrades on our Geographical Information Systems and remote sensing packages: ARC/INFO, ERDAS, ENVI, ARC VIEW, ER-Mapper. These are required to continue operation of our GIS and remote sensing labs and classes. There is no Departmental or Institutional funding set aside for this software. These software items are absolutely essential - our labs cannot function without them.
