We are requesting discipline specific funding for department of engineering technology. 1. Funding is requested for a tape casting machine that would focus on learning ceramic processing lab in ENGR 2210: Intro to Materials Science and Engineering course. This course has annual enrollment of approx. 150 ET students and serves other departments as well such as CCM and Aerospace. This is a required course for both majors and the equipment will help enhance students' hands on learning experience about materials processing and fabrication. 2. A water jet machine will replace the old CNC plasma cutter in machine shop. This setup will help all of the ET majors (240+) as well as Mechatronics Engineering majors (340+). Local companies, student clubs (EVP and SME) will immensely benefit from this new technology for precision cutting applications. 3. Electrical power and machinery (ENGR 4520) is a required course of Mechatronics Engineering and is offered both in the fall and spring semesters. The course covers some very important topics in Mechatronics Engineering, such as understanding the structure and principle of single-phase and three-phase power generation from generator and consumption in motors.Currently we have four Power Trainers and with an average of about 30 undergraduate students per semester that results in six to seven students huddled around one trainer. The acquisition of an additional Power Trainer will better serve the students by making the lab groups smaller and more hands-on. This is a critical piece of equipment that is required for Electrical power and machinery and senior design which will affect 100+ students annually at MTSU. 4. Funds are requested to purchase two milling machines with tooling that would help fabrication of student projects - more specifically senior students in the department. All quotes of equipment will be available upon request. The ET department funds will match up to 20% of the actual TAF funded cost to help facilitate these purchases and their installation (possible HVAC modifications, power requirement) and training.
