This Master Classroom Project creates in Peck Hall 308 a classroom to complement our fast-growth program in film studies (including a film studies minor) and our literature classes and provides software upgrades and adds a MIMIO PC Whiteboard attachment to Peck Hall 300, a Master Classroom in which we teach composition classes. Nearly all of our literature classes now involve multi-media instruction; and, of course, the film classes need projection and sound systems. The English Department does not have a classroom that seats 35+ and that has a projection or sound system, and we are eager to convert PH 308 to a Master Classroom to meet our needs. Teachers currently show movies on TV screens, a compromise that both students and teachers recognize as detracting from any kind of multi-media study. The minor upgrades to PH 300 follow suggestions from Steve Brooks and will make the computers more stable by making Fortres unnecessary, will aid OIT in servicing the hardware, and will improve the current whiteboard installations. Both classrooms already are heavily used. We schedule 13-15 sections in PH 308, each with 35+ students, affecting a total of 455-525 students each semester. In PH 300 we schedule 13-15 sections, each with 18 students, affecting a total of 234-270 students each semester.
