Keeping in line with the University’s mission to provide student’s a comprehensive and innovative experience, the Department of Art and Design moves to expand our developing additive fabrication facilities. We are the largest program within the College of Liberal Arts, with over 350 majors and 240 minors. We continue to improve our ability to grow with the rapidly evolving landscape of digital fabrication and its integration within our arts program. The current TAF request is designed to establish a new digital lab/ master classroom (Todd 212) dedicated to exploring fusion deposition modeling printing. Upgrading and adding innovative facilities will provide Art and Design faculty/ students access to utilize advanced digital technologies in their curriculum/ portfolio development. Additionally, employment projections through the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 10% growth in employment opportunities for additive manufacturing opportunities between 2019 to 2029. As companies seek out candidates with additive manufacturing skills, we look to provide our students the creative and innovative background that will propel them into this challenging field. Establishing a unique opportunity for students will aid in recruitment and provide our students an additional means to position themselves post-graduation for employment. This Master Classroom request covers construction and renovation costs and a standard Master Classroom Equipment upgrade. The Discipline Specific Equipment allocated to the new Master Classroom has been placed in the 2022 CLA Discipline Specific Proposal #2306.
