The MTSU Percussion Studio is one of the largest studios in the MTSU School of Music. Over the last several years we have had as many as 45 students at a time involved in our “classical” ensembles and private lessons, as well as up to 70 in the MTSU Band of Blue Drum Line. In addition, the Percussion Techniques course has a typical enrollment of 14-18 students. We are proposing the purchase of recording equipment sufficient to produce high quality audio / video recordings of individuals and small to medium sized ensembles. This will afford our students the opportunity to become knowledgeable about audio and video recording techniques, software, and recording process, including computer-based audio and video editing. In doing so, this will give us the opportunity to keep our students current with today’s trends in music technology. This equipment will also allow for the archiving of student performances and presentations, and will ensure the students’ access to high quality product for the purpose of submission for post-undergraduate study and entering the professional field. Our proposal includes the purchase of two new high-quality camcorders; two camera tripods; two hard camera cases; a Gimbal stabilizer (for capturing high quality “action shots”); an 8-channel USB Audio Interface; condenser microphones and microphone cables; an Apple Macbook Pro computer; and the Pro Apps Bundle for Education, which includes the Apple Logic Pro DAW software, as well as Apple Final Cut Pro video editing software.
