There is a continuing critical demand for new professionals with hands-on experience in health disciplines. DSE allows our college to train undergraduate and graduate students as future health professionals in Tennessee while also assisting our departments, college, and university in achieving all aspects of their missions. As one of the largest colleges, CBHS serves 5000+ students in Nursing, Psychology, and H&HP activity classes. CBHS graduates about 1000 undergraduates/academic year and benefits university funding (new Carnegie Research Classification, R2) by graduating approximately one third of the doctoral degrees and about half of the master’s degrees needed to maintain the classification. Funding will allow us to maintain state of the art hands-on training in health-related professional areas of high demand. It will allow us to adapt current instructional methods to align with increased pandemic-related safety requirements. Requested items are to educate/train students in the following labs/areas: (1) Nursing labs; (2) Speech and Hearing (H&HP) in the new Life Skills lab, (3) the redesigned Behavioral Analysis Specialization (Psych), (4) new psychological assessment kits for the accredited clinical and School Psychology programs required to continue meeting legal and ethical standards and (5) assistance to the Athletic Training program B.S. to M.S. transition (new licensure/certification requirements). Enrollment/usage per academic year impacted by this request: 500+ nursing students; 200+ H&HP undergraduates, 300+ Psychology undergraduates; 200+ H&HP and Psychology graduate students. Additionally affected are directed graduate research, theses and dissertations.
