Keeping in line with the University’s mission to provide students a comprehensive and innovative experience, the Department of Art and Design moves to expand and update our ability to address the growing demand from students for digital based experiences within the classroom. We are the largest program within the College of Liberal Arts, with over 350 majors and 240 minors. We continue to improve our ability to grow with the rapidly evolving landscape of digital fabrication and digital implementation, with the recent establishment of a Digital Foundations Course requirement in our program. Art and Design needs to provide studio sections access to, or expansion of, digital based equipment to continue our ability to provide students digital based assignments beyond our Foundations courses. The current TAF request is designed to update/ replace facilities from previous TAF-Purchased equipment (Todd 107a) that have become obsolete due to age and to expand our current offerings in key areas (Todd 113, 120, and 351). Upgrading and adding innovative facilities will provide Art and Design faculty/ students access to advanced digital technologies in their curriculum/ portfolio development and allow instructors curriculum versatility in utilizing advanced technologies. Establishing a deep digital investment within our program provides a unique opportunity that aids in program recognition/ recruitment and provides our students an additional means to position themselves post-graduation for employment.
