The Computer Science department would like to update and rework its computer labs to fit the changing and growing needs of academic demand to provide greater flexibility and capacity. Class lab sizes are growing and the need for flexible space to accommodate is present and growing. A discipline specific laboratory has been needed and would serve as a means of consolidating resources to provide an encompassing space that can adapt to changing academic requirements, while providing students access to facilities to support their education. KOM 350 and 360 would receive updated computing workstations, updated network configuration, reworked power setup, and new furniture. These would be configured to allow flexibility in layout. Existing A/V infrastructure would receive updates for parity with modern expectations for instruction equipment. KOM 351 would be reworked into a discipline specific laboratory with centers to support the following, but not limited to: High performance computing, GPU research, microcontrollers, robotics, networking, high end workstations, maker initiatives (Discipline specific Makerspace), and upper division student projects. This space would also be capable of hosting inter-disciplinary initiatives and supporting industry collaboration. Security updates would ensure swipe card access to all exterior doors that would expand availability to faculty and students without need for constant student worker staffing. Cameras would be added to provide monitoring and security.
