In 2020-21, Media Arts acquired first priority access to COE 244. This room is used primarily for Filmmaking classes. This program has a little over 400 majors, and is also a popular minor and popular for electives as well. This room is booked fairly solid with fully enrolled classes. This program has grown 42% over the past five years, and is expected to continue to grow especially in the light of new facilities being added (XR Stage), and a new concentration being added to the degree (Motion Design) Unfortunately, the media installation in this room is inadequate for critical viewing of filmed works. This proposal is to bring the media in this room up to cinema quality (sound and picture), and to improve the lighting for better viewing of films. One entire wall of this classroom is exterior windows with gray-out shades. We propose to change the shades to a darker shade to improve the ambient lighting while viewing films. These proposed changes will dramatically improve its use for film classes.
