The mobile laptop cart with twenty-five Precision laptops will be deployed within the College of Basic and Applied Sciences as an outreach and instructional tool in a variety of disciplines. Within the Engineering Technology department we are developing new 1 credit-hour courses as certification courses for vision, robotics, and PLC training that will ultimately be used by students to build their resumes as well as satisfying Industrial Orientation courses (ET 2910) and stacking three of the 1-credit options to qualify as a Mechatronics 3-credit hour elective. These courses will be using industry compatible equipment, making the 550 Engineering Technology students more career ready and desirable by industries. We anticipate that nearly every student in the program will complete at least two (2) of the 1-credit hour courses (~ 220 additional SCH per year) using vision systems and small robots that will either be donated or purchased at a later date. An example of another use case will be in STEM teacher and student workshops, field trips, or camps during the academic year and/or summer/breaks. The anticipated MTSU undergraduate students impacted within a given year will be 96, while also providing unique K-12 outreach to 72 teachers, and approximately 120 K-12 students through enrichment camps.
