SFA 101 and 117

To serve the needs of music students, the School of Music (SoM) desires to outfit both SFA 117 (Choral Hall) and SFA 101 (Jazz Room) with technology to capture student performances via video/audio. These master classroom updates would allow students to record their performances, and we would capture their performances via LiveStream to our SoM YouTube channel. Adding LiveStream capability would allow students to better evaluate their own performance, and it would also allow outside adjudicators to assess and give feedback. In addition to student ensembles, students enrolled in the following courses are required to perform a solo recital and could benefit from this project: MUAP 3800: Junior Recital, MUAP 4800: Partial Senior Recital, 4900: Senior Recital, and MUAP 6670: Graduate Recital. To that end, we are requesting the addition of a single-point recording camera and a good quality recording, stereo microphone, plus the necessary equipment to live stream on YouTube in both SFA 101 and SFA 117. We would also need to install a curtain system in SFA 101 (aka Jazz Room), to align with the performance curtains installed in SFA 117 (aka Choir Room) in Fall 2022. The curtains allow us to better convert the classroom to a visually aesthetic student performance space. The SoM presents over 200 concerts per year in the WMB Hinton Hall. Upgrading SFA 101 and 117 would allow us to better serve music students by helping meet this demand, more effectively using multiple spaces for student performances, and ensuring we record these for NASM accreditation purposes.
