The Computer Science department would like to purchase a virtualization cluster that will host virtual machines to support JupyterHub and support projects for CSCI 1170, CSCI 2170, and other classes. Every semester, these classes are taught to 200-250+ undergraduate students in the Computer Science, Data Science, and Engineering Technology departments. The demand for these classes is growing and requires more modern computing resources. The proposed system will enhance the student learning experiences by providing a dedicated platform to support the increasing demand and future curriculum development. JupyterHub is an open-source platform enabling student access via a web-based interactive environment for coding, debugging, and experimenting with data science and programming concepts. It is widely used in computer science, data science education, and professional research. It is an effective tool for enhancing students' learning and engagement. Access to this tool will grant hands-on experience in programming and problem-solving, which are critical skills in computer science, data science, and other science disciplines. This virtualization cluster will provide a robust and reliable platform for running JupyterHub software and other future systems. It will also ensure that students have access to the latest software and updates to keep up with the latest trends and technologies. This system will support resources accessible to students on and off the MTSU campus, providing a shared resource for the entire student body. The department needs the new system because the old system is no longer viable. Other systems have been unable to handle the load. During lab time and outside of lab hours, students faced issues logging in to the system, slow performance, and system crashes, preventing them from working on class assignments. The proposed system will ensure capacity to allow students to use the system without difficulties in a better learning environment.
