The mobile laptop cart with ten (10) Precision laptops will be deployed within the College of Basic and Applied Sciences as an outreach and instructional tool in a variety of disciplines. Within the Engineering Technology department, we are developing new 1 credit-hour courses as certification courses for vision, robotics, and PLC training that will ultimately be used by students to enhance their resumes. These courses will be using industry compatible equipment, making the 550 Engineering Technology students more career ready and desirable by industries. We anticipate that nearly every student in the program will complete at least two (2) of the 1-credit hour courses (~ 220 additional SCH per year) using vision systems and small robots. An example of another use case will be in STEM teacher and student workshops, field trips, or camps during the academic year and/or summer/breaks. The anticipated MTSU undergraduate students impacted within a given year will be 96, while also providing unique K-12 outreach to 72 teachers, and approximately 120 K-12 students through enrichment camps. The Laptop Charging Cart (Mfg. Part # CSC32ACW) has been funded as part of a Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance grant supporting Architectural and Engineering schools.
