COE requests software to support graduate students' research to engage online within our R2 university. Qualitative research is increasingly important in our coursework, but access to qualitative analysis software is limited. Dedoose, a qualitative analysis software, would meet this need and serve as a qualitative counterpart to SPSS (currently funded through TAF fees). Dedoose is distinct from NVivo, currently supported as an enterprise software, because it is a cloud-based and allows remote students, the majority of our graduate students, to engage in collaborative research. With college level access, purchasing Dedoose at their enterprise level of 50 or more active users includes: -Account and user administration -SSO integration (SSO via SAML2 or Oauth & Microsoft Azure) -Annual workshops and training -Priority support team, monthly “Office Hours” consultation session, and custom logging and reporting Discipline level accounts allow students access and training to the software, with each course being redeveloped to integrate Dedoose. Training will be part of introductory and advanced qualitative and mixed methods courses (e.g. ALSI 7610 & 7630; ALSS 7610 & 7630; LITS 7330). Annually 70-80 students enroll in these courses with 20 students continuing to utilize the software during dissertation. Current cost per student annually is $155, considering current enrollment the total cost is $15,540. Enterprise level for 100 users is $10,200 annually. Cost savings to students at this level is $5000 and does not consider faculty use to support student learning. Users are measured based on active use, not the number of user accounts.
