This project includes the upgrade of Adobe Photoshop from 5.0 to 6.0 and the addition of 3D Studio Viz and MS Publisher 2000 to the Human Sciences Computer Labs. Photoshop is currently being used by TXMD students to manipulate fabric patterns and colors applied to apparel designs. The upgrade will allow students to benefit from the enhancements available in the latest release, thus graduating with the ability to effectively use the most current software. Both Publisher 2000 and 3D Studio Viz will be used by Interior Design students. The use of Publisher to create presentations is new in the Interior Design field. Students can take furnishings and finish samples from manufacturers web sites or scanned images and create presentation boards to support their designs. The ability to capture images off the web will dramatically increase the sources available to students for selection of furniture, lighting, fabrics, wallcovering, etc., required to complete the design of a space. 3D Studio Viz will be used for drawing and rendering of three-dimensional representations of design solutions. Currently, students use the limited capabilities of AutoCAD to create and render these drawings, with less than optimal results. 3D Studio Viz is specifically intended to create more realistic and detailed drawings which allows the student to be much more productive in their computer time and much more successful in their project presentation.
