GIS/Remote Sensing Student Lab Upgrade The requested equipment will be used by students in the following Geography and Geology courses: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Cartography, Image Interpretation, Computer/Field Methods in Geology, and Geologic Remote Sensing. These are all upper level courses, some of which are also listed for graduate (500) level credit. The average annual enrollment in the classes varies between 50 and 75 students, depending upon which of the classes are offered each semester. About 10% of these are graduate students. Two categories of items are requested: software upgrades/support and computers. The software request is for the annual license, support, and upgrades on Geographical Information Systems and remote sensing packages: ARC/INFO, ERDAS, ENVI, ARC VIEW, and ER-Mapper. These are required to continue operation of our GIS and remote sensing labs and classes. Four new computers are needed to replace aging Pentium machines. The next software versions of the above packages are expected to exceed the limits of the existing older computers. The software upgrade/support is absolutely essential to the project; our labs cannot operate without them. The upgrade computers are definately needed, but are not absolutely required for operations.
