The National Science Education Standards has called for changes to be made in science education. Students should understand the scientific process and its place in public issues. Students should not be memorizing facts but should be using technology and mathematics in the classroom to understand the nature of science. Thus we would like to propose that AMG 115 be converted into a MASTER CLASSROOM/STUDIO LABORATORY for PSCI 1030 and other introductory science courses. Following the work of Bailey et. al., the proposed classroom would provide an environment that would involve collaborative learning, laboratory experiences using innovative technology along with traditional methods, conventional and web-based lectures and assessments and a sense of community that would facilitate student learning and success. These proposed changes will assist students with meeting the goals of the General Studies Program. Students using this classroom will learn to think independently and critically, collect and analyze information, work as a team member, and communicate results. In addition they will be able to read and understand current science in the news and thus how science plays a role in the global community.
