Replacement of Existing Technology

This project is a resubmission of a combined proposal between the School of Journalism and the Electronic Media Communication Department from last year. The requested equipment is for a new open lab created in 2002 from the school’s former Graphic Communication lab areas. To make the lab functional for the 2002-03 school year, the area’s present equipment came from the old graphics and digital imaging labs. This hardware and software are at least two to three generations behind (4-5 years) current technology. This lab will support students in the Media Design/Graphic Communication, Digital Photography and Digital Media Communication programs as well as lab needs associated with other areas in the School of Journalism and the College of Mass Communication. The computers in the lab also will support to the Middle Tennessee Poll activities. These programs directly serve 300+ students. It is expected that the number of students directly served will double. An additional 500-800 students will use the labs in ancillary classes related to School of Journalism and Electronic Media Communication programs. The lab also is open to students in the College of Mass Communication and MTSU.
