Replacement of Existing Technology

The nine Windows 98 systems are out of warranty and older than 3½ years including the CMOS batteries which are about to expire. Eight of these are Dell Dimensions, model XPS R350, and were shipped to MTSU on 11/11/1998. The service tag numbers are H91Q0, H91Q7, H91Q8, H91Q9, H91QB, H91QD, H91QG, H91PZ and Laptop 9ZAGP.

We propose to replace nine 4-year old computers in the AMG 204 Open Student Computer Laboratory in the HPERS Department. One of these systems is a laptop that can be checked out by students. This lab is fully accessible by all students. Based on a tally of the voluntary sign-in sheet, there were 2,984 documented student visits during the Fall 2002 term between October 8th and December 8th. Students use this lab for many reasons, including preparation of class assignments, access to the Internet for research purposes, access to the MTSU library, undergraduate papers, thesis and dissertation preparation, accessing on line course materials, and MTSU e-mail.
