This proposal requests the purchase of four laptop computers for use by MTSU faculty members to use to develop and conduct technology-enhanced courses. With limited departmental funding and the increasing number of students who wish to acquire their degrees through distance learning, availability of this equipment will encourage new online course development that could potentially impact 300 plus students per academic year. The computers would be kept in the Online Courses Office inventory and checked out as needed for course development and instruction. And to provide two laptops for MTSU students and faculty attending classes at off-campus locations. Off-campus courses are often held in high school classrooms and/or conference rooms that are not equipped with instructional technology. Many of our undergraduate and graduate level courses require students to present computer-aided presentations, yet these off-campus students do not have the same access to classroom technology. Due to the increase of students we serve, we are requesting two computers to be used at off-campus sites in Franklin, TN, and Smyrna, TN. Because of the increase in enrollment and course offerings at these sites, the equipment would be a much needed and welcomed commodity, it would also allow faculty to create a more efficient learning environment. The equipment would be portable so that it could be moved in the event that classes are moved to a new off-campus site. Our proposal is to provide students technology resources via the Dell Inspiron 5150 Laptop that would be stored in a lockable cabinet and only used for MTSU faculty and students. It’s our belief that providing this equipment for MTSU’s off-campus students would directly benefit them and would also enhance our commitment to being a student-centered learning institution. The equipment would also be an appropriate use of the off-campus students Technology Access Fee dollars and would provide them with resources to experience technology similar to that of their on-campus counterpart.
