Replacement of Existing Technology

This proposal asks for funding under three different categories: 1) Software updates (Items 1 to 5), which include Windows Server 2003 and client access licenses for lab computers, and teaching software such as Microsoft FrontPage 2003, Adobe Acrobat and Easy CD Creator that are used in graduate courses; 2) Hardware replacement (Items 6 and 7), which includes headphones for lab computers and Dazzle video capture card that is used for digitizing foreign language learning materials. We especially need to replace those headphones in the lab that are worn out after more than two years’ use; 3) New hardware. We need to purchase a CD/DVD duplication system (Items 8 to 10) that can be used to duplicate CDs and DVDs in large quantity. Right now foreign language audio/video CDs (for student to check out) are duplicated one by one on lab computers, which is time consuming and prone to human operation errors. A CD/DVD duplication system will allow us to duplicate CDs/DVDs in a timely fashion and ensure copying quality.
