Currently, the available number of computers in the Computer Learning Lab does not meet our student demand. Enrollment increased from 40 to 48 students spring semester 2004 and there is increased need for computer availability for school work, accessing course materials on WebCT, and viewing computer programs for course work. The SON is also using standardized testing for all levels of nursing students and some courses are beginning to use computer testing in their on-ground courses. Additionally, this is an open lab for all MTSU students. The lab must be closed for standardized testing for nursing students. The number of computers (currently 33) necessitates giving these exams at two different times. This is unproductive time for students and faculty, and prevents lab use by all students. We have large tables at the front of the lab, and, want to replace them with smaller modular tables similar to what we have in the back part of the lab. These modular tables are more conducive for testing purposes as well as course work. By adding these tables and restructuring the room, we can also increase the number of computers and test more students in one time period. We have labor costs for restructuring the room, painting, new carpet, etc. We would like to increase the number of printers from 2 to 4 and get additional headphones for students to use while watching computer programs.
