Media Design classroom. The following equipment is to be used in a Media Design master classroom equipped to teach media design, advertising, public relations and journalism students various forms of publication design, ranging from brochures to newspapers. The color printer is for proofing and finalizing design projects produced in the classroom. Currently, there is only a black and white printer that is four years old. The scanners are for inputting film or printed material into digital forms for publication. The uneven power in the Mass Communication building necessitates the use of unlimited power supply (UPS) to even out the power, prolonging the life of CPUs. The firewire drive is for additional storage for student work as well as archiving portfolios. This equipment would make the master classroom fully operational with the TAF equipment purchased last year. The classroom directly serves students in the Media Design program but also supports the School of Journalism and the College of Mass Communication. The classroom serves 250-300 students. Media Design Lab The following equipment is to be used in the Media Design open lab for media design, advertising, public relations and journalism students, as well as students in the College of Mass Communication and MTSU. The color printer is for proofing and finalizing design projects produced. Currently there is only a black and white printer that is four years old. The large-format scanner is used for inputting film or printed material into digital forms for publication. It will be the only usb/firewire scanner serving the media design area. The Extensis Suitcase and Macromedia Studio software will make the open lab compatible with the master classroom. Suitcase is a font management software and the MX Studio is a multimedia suite of applications. This equipment would make the open lab fully operational with the TAF equipment purchased last year. The lab directly serves students in the Media Design program but also supports the School of Journalism and the College of Mass Communication. The lab directly serves 500-800 students.
