The Department of Political Science seeks funding to install STATA, a statistical software package, on the computers in the Peck Hall 320 computer lab and in the two master classrooms used by instructors in political science (Peck Hall 211 and 218). STATA is the sfotware used in the department's statistical methods course, and has become a leading statistical package for both political science research and the dissemination of that research. The American Political Science Association's Political Methodology section, for example, posts data sets and research replication materials in STATA format. Placing STATA in the computer lab would facilitate the teaching of the methods course, as well as enable all students to access materials using STATA. Placing STATA in the master classrooms would enable instructors to access and use STATA reasearch and teaching materials, and allow for the integration and use of the computer lab with many different political science courses.
