Funding is requested for an interactive instructional space that will introduce faculty and students to new technologies and information sources that can provide enrichment experiences campus wide. The equipment and software will enable students to explore real-world problems and situations, participate in interactive intellectual/educational games, learn new languages, and will provide new tools that offer heretofore unavailable opportunities for the design of professional documents and Web sites. Because of the experimental nature of the technology, only a portion of the student body will be directly involved in its use initially. This will, however, give faculty an opportunity to use instructional technology in a laboratory setting that will ultimately foster its use on a broader basis. Moreover, the use of this technology by Honors and non-Honors students will enhance their preparation for graduate school and other post-graduate professional programs. MTSU students will thus be provided with opportunities for technology-enhanced instruction of the highest caliber. Maximum classroom use will allow 208 students to be served per week (MWF 8:00 a.m. to 5:05 p.m. and TR 8:00 a.m. to 4:05 p.m.). An additional 40 will be served during evening hours (total=248), based on a realistic usage level of 50% capacity.
